Johnny Storm

I'm happy for Michael, to be in a superhero movie which are pretty big now and to play Johnny Storm. But I kinda wish he didn't play Johnny. I think he will do a fantastic job, but I feel as though he would've been cooler if he played a different superhero. Maybe spiderman after garfield or something else. But still excited for him!

Im happy they chose a good actor to portray Johnny and I'm happy for Michael. However, they're not just changing the character's race, they'll be changing his history. He has always been the biological brother of Susan Storm. Sue is being played by Kate Mara. Why would they bring in someone of another race to play her biological brother? and if they aren't making them Brother and Sister then why are they messing up the character's origins?

reply

Who said their changing the history? Also, does "race" matter? They could be play siblings, half siblings, or etc. either way, that will not effect how well the movie will do and to appeal to the mainstream. Again, I'm happy for Michael, but I don't really care for the fantastic four that much. I wouldn't have mind seeing him play miles morales

considering their demographic will be hardcore Sheldon Coopers all over the world, they could have stuck to the source material. thats just my opinion though. ill see the movie regardless of who plays Johnny Storm. Meryl Streep could play johnny storm and ill still see it.

reply

That's true. But for some reason they aren't open to new ideas. If they were given the chance to pick who they wanted, the movie would be completely terrible lol.

reply

No, the demographic for a blockbuster is everyone they can possibly get. There aren't enough Sheldons in the world for a movie to make $200 million or more at the box-office. Movies become blockbusters by appealing to everyone and they clearly want a blockbuster. So changing things for maximum appeal is par for the course.

So the writers will have Johnny and Sue be half or adoptive siblings for the sake of the movie. So what? Films based on comic books always take certain liberties with the stories of the characters. It's just a different interpretation of Johnny, and it won't render the Johnny of the comics obsolete. If anything, it'll (hopefully, provided the film is good and does well) open up the door for more diverse casting in movies based on comic books. Sometimes a character's race is integral to the story (i.e. Storm or Black Panther), but much of the time it isn't really. It's just a matter of what audiences are used to.

How is Storm's back story integral?

Or... more integral that Johnny's?

Re: Storm, as the daughter of a princess of a Kenyan tribe, I'd say that her race is pretty important to her identity and backstory.
