I like her, but she does not work on Transparent. She's playing against type and she's too exaggerated as a cliche Jewish mom. She sounds too Mosholu Parkway. And they dress her baggy but she's way too toned-she looks like you could bounce a quarter off her abs. Just throws the show off, in my opinion. She works best when she is regal and imperious. And the wig is distracting, too.
shareAgree x 100,000,000. Her kind of bad ham (irony) isn't a match for this otherwise very good show. The show careens off course during her ill shtick. Miscast to the nth degree. Other irony. Jeffrey's wigs outclass hers by miles. Maybe she is the real 'transparent' in a shocker twist.

shareI adore her - especially her long standing as an advocate of LGBT rights - but I find her distracting in the show. Overacting generally. It makes me feel sad because I like her so much.
shareI agree May. Her long time spent and efforts as an LGBT ally I greatly appreciate and laud. So like you, it pains me to criticize her performance, but boy is she miscast on "Transparent" imho.
shareI agree with the over the top Jewish mom character, but I just love her. I've loved her since Who's the Boss, and especially on Law and Order. There's just something about her, so I quickly got past the cliche mom thing.
