She just got a new fan

They showed her movies all day for 24 hours on Turner Classic Movies. I got to see most of them. I found myself liking her more and more. Not only did I love her voice, but I loved her acting. She was so sweet and charming and lovable. Last, but certainly not least, she was very beautiful. I consider her one of the best actresses I've seen to show what being in love looks like. Between her facial expressions, her body language, and her eyes, she really knew how to show it.

P.S. She should have married Nelson Eddy.

I always liked her, and she started in two of my favorite films of the 1930s: the ahead-of-its-time musical "Love Me Tonight", and the awesome "San Francisco". I recommend both to any fan of classic films!

And she was fun in the films with Nelson Eddy too, although I can't recommend those to everyone. Did you know that back in the day, Eddy was known as "The Singing Capon"? True!

I saw part of San Francisco. I missed the ending with the earthquake. I did catch Naughty Marietta. I got to see when she is singing Sweet Mystery of Life. Check out my post on the message board for The Phantom of the Opera (1943). I mentioned Jeanette on there.

"San Francisco" is a terrific film, and the best part of it is the earthquake and aftermath. Do catch it if you have a chance!

reply

I saw it last year, the ending was cool!

reply

Yep, I enjoyed "San Francisco" a lot when I saw it a few years ago. I'm not a fan of her singing, though. I know it's blasphemous to say it, but I just don't like high, falsetto-type voices. Sorry.

reply

I feel the same way, that type of singing is Ok in small doses.

reply

Yes great actress...👍

I loved her in Somebody Up There Likes Me. It's funny, James Dean was supposed to play Ricky Graziano. James and Pier would've played husband and wife.

reply

I read he never got over Pier breaking his heart when she married Vic Damon.

I read on one classic movie star blog, Nelson got her pregnant, and she miscarried. He thought she had an abortion.

reply

She is an underrated actress.
