Oscar nomination for Mendes in Place Beyond the Pines
I just saw The Place Beyond the Pines and I'm going to predict that Mendes gets an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. At the very least, she should get a Golden Globes nomination.
She's done a lot of films and has paid her dues, and I think Academy voters love emotional gritty Indie films. She cries a lot and looks sad, and voters love when actors get weepy and really emotional. I think she does a fantastic job and was perfect for the role of Romina. She gives a breakout performance in Pines and I think that is one of the reasons why she was the only actor to do a Press Tour promoting the movie.
