Bad actress?

I watched I Care A Lot a few days ago. She did that same robotic, bland thing she did in Gone Girl. I know she's playing a sociopath and all that, but there's something really bad about the way she goes about it.

No, she was excellent in it and made us easily hate her.

She made me hate those movies too.

On a scale of 1 to Brie Larson, how bad was she?

She's a good actress in general, one of those well-trained Brits who's always going to do a good job. She's popped up in a lot of films over the last couple of decades, and she gets the job done right every time.

I haven't seen the new TV show, though.

I liked her in "Gone Girl". Did not see "I Care A Lot", though. Sometimes actors get pigeonholed into a category of roles. Maybe that's what's happening with her. Perhaps she doesn't get a lot of proposals from producers. Also, at her age it's sadly more and more difficult for an actress to stay relevant. So she probably just accepts roles that come her way even if she knows she's already played that sort of character.

On the other hand if that's not the case, then she's pigeonholing herself. Maybe she feels these are "safe roles" for her.

Those are a lot of "maybes" but I think it's one of the two.

Rosamund Pike is just too cold for American audiences. Even if an actress is a raging bitch behind the scenes, she has to be able to convincingly fake sweet girl next door to win over the people reading hordes. The one exception to this rule is Nicole Kidman. Icebox but very successful.

I think robotic is a better word to describe her performances I've seen.
