He has announced his retirement

https://www.vhnd.com/2021/10/01/david-lee-roth-im-retiring/

I'm a fan, but honestly his performances in the last decade are sort of embarrassing.

Either way, he's a legend.

reply

A legend for sure👍

I saw him and Van Haggar about 17 years ago in New Jersey, he was still doing the high kicks and moves but he had clearly lost a few steps

Good for him for rocking so long, he's a cool dude

reply

I think I saw that same tour in California, and he was good.

I saw him perform WITH Van Halen (sans Haggar) in 2012? and he was frickin' awful. We left early.

reply

I think he hung around an extra year to see if Alex was going to continue the band.

Man, DLR was unstoppable until his 2nd solo album in 87. I guess his candle burnt at both ends.

reply

He still has a few shows scheduled for January so we'll see if he changes his mind. Motley Crue came out of retirement for their reunion tour. He'll come out of retirement if they can do a Van Halen reunion. I wanted to see Dave and Sam do a tour with Joe Satriani playing guitar along with Michael Anthony and Alex VH. I wonder if covid has killed the concert business.

reply

if Vince Neil is still allowed to "sing" into a microphone on stage then DLR needs no permission

reply

retiring in coconut grove?

reply

Which is located on Tobacco Road.

reply

that's right

reply

the bottom line is that his life has been damn good

reply

Look, I saw Ozzy Osbourne's "No More Tours" back in 1992. I think he's retired like 20 times since then and is STILL touring.

reply

Hah, the only difference is that Ozzy was only about 45 yrs old then. Dave's creeping up on 70.

reply

True.

Crimminy he looked near-death then. He was running around throwing buckets of water into the crowds with his shirt off and belly flopping around.

reply

I was thinking, I saw him on a tour in 1996 saying it was his last tour. Is the tour you saw with Type O Negative and Sepultura opening?

I do remember it was supposed to be his last, but at the end of the show a sign lit up "I'll be back" or something haha

reply

I had to Google it and there is actual video! This is pre-camera phones so I'm shocked.

I am pretty sure it was Ugly Kid Joe opening but I can't remember.

reply

Ah okay, on my show he had a completely different band Bordin, Trujillo and Joe Holmes.

Gonna check out these vids....

reply

The thing about these has been rockstars retiring is they have to give the radio stations something to announce besides "Another _ _ _ _ _ Lee Roth concert tour date" so they go with "This is the LAST _ _ _ _ _ Lee Roth concert ever!"

wash, rinse, repeat.

reply

I love DRL without question but I'm happy that he's hanging it up. He sounds terrible compared to his VH and solo years.

I hope he enjoys his retirement!
