Kristen snubbed by Independent Spirit Awards

She wasn't nominated for supporting actress category for Certain Women. Sigh. But maybe I ll write something for Kristen one day. And she does the film and maybe just maybe she gets a People's choice award, a Golden Globe, and hopefully her 1st Oscar nomination.

reply

I don't know why but these award nominations always frustrate me by not nominating Kristen when she clearly deserve one. I've stopped hoping for Oscar a long time ago. I'm looking forward to Cesar 2017 where I'm hoping she'll get a nomination for Personal Shopper.

reply

Eh, I never expected her to get an Oscar nomination this year.

reply

Never say never.

reply

Of course she didn't. The movie was terrible and she didn't really bring anything special to it.

reply

Which film whould get it for this year?

Equals of critical flop and is not an Oscar movie.

The Woody Allen movie went nowhere.

She was overshadowed in Certain Women.

Personal Shopper is disliked outside of her performance. Certainly sometimes performances can overcome bad movies and get a nomination but I don't think the film will be big enough or interesting enough for the voters to even watch.

Billy Lynn's Oscar buzz died as soon as the reviews came in. And it's a huge flop in North America. I don't foresee the voters rushing to watch it.

I would be absolutely stunned if she garnered a nom this year.

reply

I loved her in Certain Women, but it was really Lily Gladstone's story. Gladstone was wonderful and heartbreaking.

reply

I basically agree with you, but don't cut off Personal Shopper just yet - it hasn't even been released yet.

Agreed the Critics are divided on this, but you can't always take the reviews as a hint about how a film will perform in theaters, and this will maybe surprise at the box office - celeb nudity is always a huge motivation to get people into said theaters. ;)

But otherwise I agree with you.

reply

I mean it the future. I don't think Kristen will get nominated this year for an Oscar. But give it in 5 or 10 years, who's to say she wont be nominated. Besides I've read about people winning Oscars or nominated for Oscar in the past and these people's acting would be considered "worst" than Kristen's by today's standards. That's why I said "Never Say Never."
