A Bringing Things Up-To-Date Birthday Bash

In honor of Kristen's 33rd birthday, I thought I'd bring things up-to-date with items that have not yet been posted.

I) Susan Sontag
Kristen has been cast to play Susan Sontag in a biopic/documentary titled Sontag, which is being directed by Kirsten Johnson.
https://variety.com/2023/film/news/kristen-stewart-susan-sontag-biopic-kirsten-johnson-1235519168/

According to what I read, filming was supposed to start in Berlin during the recently held Berlin Film Festival. I have not yet read anything which states that that actually happened.

Here's the IMDb page ... https://imdb.com/title/tt26688713/

For those of you who might be unfamiliar with Susan Sontag, you can read about her here ...

II) A new film with Kristen from Ben Foster?
As I read about the Sontag project, I came across a surprising bit of info from The Playlist ...
https://theplaylist.net/kristen-stewart-will-play-susan-sontag-in-kirsten-johnsons-upcoming-meta-documentary-which-starts-filming-at-berlin-2023-20230210/

Also upcoming for Stewart: Love Me with Steven Yeun, Rose Glass' Love Lies Bleeding with Dave Franco and Jena Malone, and a yet-to-be-titled film from Ben Foster.

This was the first and only time I have heard about this "yet-to-be-titled film".

III) The Chronology of Water
Regarding the full length feature film which Kristen has written the screenplay for and will direct, Imogen Poots has been cast to play the lead.
https://imdb.com/title/tt8667404/

IV) Boygenius- The Film
Speaking of directing, Kristen has just directed a 14 minute short regarding the musical group Boygenius' recently released The Record.

The short film is included in the above link, but here is a direct YouTube link ...

V) A future film with Olivier Assayas?
Finally, there very well could be a new Olivier Assayas directed film with Kristen sometime in the future.
Last year, Kristen had a small role playing a character named Lianna in the last episode in the Olivier Assayas' directed TV series, Irma Vep. Shortly after that brief appearance, I read the following ...
It was a great year for Olivier Assayas' fans, the paradox is that knowing the man can still produce one of his liveliest, boldest, funniest, all-around-greatest works -- and at 'eight hours length' -- leaves us wanting more. There's an obvious thrill in the brief note Assayas and Kristen Stewart will reunite, then frustration that we have nothing else. It's only said, in a Forbes piece on Stewart's work with Chanel, that the two have a film "in preparation." From there we must guess.

An Irma Vep spin-off about American pop star Lianna? One can dream. Whatever the case: Stewart has finished shooting two features with nothing else yet announced, while no word of a new Assayas picture's yet emerged. Our eyes are peeled.

Let us hope a third film does indeed happen, as Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper were both very good.

In closing, let me just add, Happy Birthday, Kristen!

4/13 UPDATE: Kristen has just been cast in a supporting role in a comedy titled Sacramento.
See my post below for more info.

Yesterday, it was announced that Kristen has been cast in a supporting role in a comedy titled Sacramento, which is due to shoot this spring.

Among the more interesting things about this project is that the film will be directed by Michael Angarano from a script that he co-wrote with Chris Smith.
Of course, Michael and Kristen last worked together on Speak, which was filmed 20 years ago in 2003.
20 years -- where does the time go?

From: https://deadline.com/2023/04/kristen-stewart-aj-mendez-maya-erskine-comedy-sacramento-1235322690/

Kristen Stewart (Spencer) is joining Michael Angarano (This Is Us), Michael Cera (Juno) and Maya Erskine (Pen15) in road-trip comedy Sacramento.

Angarano is directing the feature, which is due to shoot this spring. He also co-wrote the script with Chris Smith.

Pic follows Rickey (Angarano), an energetic and free-spirited young man, and Glenn (Cera), his long-time friend who's settled into domestic life. On an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento, their past comes into focus and questions their future. Erskine will play Rickey's wife Tallie, and Stewart is Glenn's wife, Rosie.

Even though I have no clue how large of a role Kristen will have, it will nonetheless be nice to see Kristen in a comedy.

Then, apparently, Sontag will go before the cameras later in the year.

CKid, thanks for the info and updates. New movie Sontag plus - 4/13 UPDATE: Kristen has just been cast in a supporting role in a comedy titled Sacramento. I like Kristen doing comedic roles, those are fun movies.

Interesting about a possible new Assayas movie!

It's been a bit quiet lately with Kristen, but she's always doing something even if low key.

Hi Ron. Sorry I took so long to respond.
It looks like Kristen has just been cast in another new project, a film to be titled, Rosebushpruning, which is scheduled to start production in the spring of 2024.
I'm gonna start a whole new thread about this, so you can read more about it there.

Just thought that I'd add that according to IMDb, Sacramento has completed filming and is now in Post-Production.
Here's the IMDb page for the film ... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13491834

On that page, you can also find the rest of the cast who took part in this project.

Well that was nice and fast. I mean, it's only been a little over two months since this project was announced.

Meanwhile, while I hope that this film will get a theatrical release, I can't escape the feeling that it will just get released via one of the streaming services.
I also feel the same way about Love Me, the film that Kristen is in with Steven Yeun.
On the other hand, I feel that Love Lies Bleeding will indeed get released theatrically.
