is her character really dead? does anyone have info on that

Well, she got a knife in the back, and on the special features of the season 3 dvd, in a short interview Marsha says how she "dislikes Locke for killing her character", so yeah, I think it's safe to say she'd dead.

She is not dead. She will return in lost season 4 as one of the members of the freighters.
