DC TV Universe possibility

Since Smallville existed before the DCTVU, it's possible that in the future they bring Tom Welling back in somehow, maybe a new Superman show taking place after Smallville, or a live action JLA after these shows conclude perhaps. To my knowledge there is nothing actually declaring Smallville separate from the DCTVU and with the declared separation of the TV and Cinematic universes, do you think they could see this as an opportunity to capitalize on the direction they are going with their universe, as well as the existing giant fanbase for this "Superman" incarnation. They'd get a pass on his origin and I remember hearing so much from fans wanting Tom Welling to play Superman in Man of Steel. Thoughts?

It's a great thought and as much as I would love to see Tom Welling as Superman on my TV each week, he is not interested in coming back to TV. He is definitely not interested in being Superman again. He said all this in a Draft Day interview. He is focusing on film right now! Hope he gets a true leading man role soon! His part in The Choice is another small one. :(

Unfortunately I don't see his film career going very far, he isn't the strongest actor but he is good at what he has a predisposition for. I think returning to the only thing where he found real success would be his best and most desirable option, especially considering how different the circumstances of the role would be now. Not to mention, this wouldn't be for quite a while so he would have time to continue and search for a place in film, but he would probably even have a better chance of success in film if he returned to TV and became involved with DC. He'd be a hot topic and in his off time i'm sure he would find spots in a few films dying for an actor as currently relevant, should he return to DC

There has been talk that he may appear in an episode of The Flash in season 2.

Man I don't watch any of the DC shows anymore. I really don't like the soap-opera format they've adapted but I still think Tom Welling returning as Superman would be really cool and fun for the DCTVU :)

I support Welling's desire to move on from TV and the role of Superman for more roles in film.

Unfortunately Hollywood disagrees. Guy can't catch a break and I feel for him. I think he has talent beyond Smallville but he simply isn't being offered roles.

With that being said, a man's gotta eat. I'm not sure how much Smallville cash he put away but he sure as hell ain't paying the bills with his movie roles.

I can understand him not signing on for a new Superman series, BUT with the DC TV universe being so huge now he should absolutely consider putting on the cape for endless guest star roles. I mean eventually they are going to cast a new Superman to pop up on Arrow and Flash and whatever else and Tom might not want to miss his chance to be the guy taking the role.

Just my 2 cents.

I would think from his residuals from Smallville reruns, DVD's and merchandise likeness, Tom W. could probably retire from acting if he wanted to. It all depends on how expensive he likes to live.

I think he played it smart with his money from Smallville which has given him the ability to not have to worry about it. That being said, tv and film have switched roles lately, with tv stars not being seen as lesser and films not being nearly as consistent at success. It would be remiss to not consider guest starring in a role he has proven he is successful at, especially as his show paved the way for a successful run at Superhero dramas, when before they were mostly half hour action comedies. I would especially like to see him as Kara's cousin on Supergirl, or give Cisco a fan boy moment on Flash along with some advice to Barry. Even seeing him rebuke Ollie for being violent would be sweet, though Ollie would probably just roll his eyes.

Really though, in the end, he played Clark too well and he will not be able to overcome being him in the publics eye, much like Reeve will always be remembered also. As an actor, it may be frustrating, but stick to your strengths.
