Am I in the minority for thinking she's not beautiful?

I think she's a terrific actress. But she isn't good looking in the least. Which is fine. Not all actors have to be necessarily good looking. If they can act well, and do justice to their character, that's all that matters. I'm a fan, but that's inspite of her looks.

To me, Emma Stone is an example of how an actor can achieve success due to their talent alone, even without good looks that is. But on these message boards, there seem to be a lot of threads devoted to just how beautiful she is. So am I in the minority for disagreeing with that? Or are there others who have the same opinion as me?

Totally agree. I can understand that she has some appeal, maybe as a "girl next door" type who is friends with the main female character and is envious of those surrounding her, or a role where she is playing someone complex with layers of personality and emotions, but as a leading lady? I just don't think she is convincing enough. She isn't ugly, but not beautiful either - simply average. Sure she has a very friendly face but it's not unique.

She is, in every sense, heart stoppingly drop dead gorgeous along with incredibly talented!

I think she was pretty in "Super bad" when she was under 20, but as she got older not so much. I think she looks more average these days.

Yes, and yes.

I often wonder the same thing, except I don't think she is a good actress either. I actually find her insufferable but I'm not really sure why!

Watching La La Land I was thinking this. Not to say she's ugly because she's definitely not. However she is a very untraditional looking leading lady. I do think she's cute just not as gorgeous as some proclaim. I think she looked better in some of her other movies I've seen. In your normal setting she'd be considered attractive but probably wouldn't be a girl every guy was fawning over if just based on looks (although being a redhead helps her stand out too).

In my opinion, which doesn't matter to anyone, she's average looking at best and a mediocre actress to boot. I don't understand the worldwide obsession. All of my friends think she's the hottest woman on the planet.

Maybe you should pay attention to your friends?

reply

I agree. For a Hollywood film star she's average looking.

reply

She's not a Kate Beckinsale, but she's pretty good looking.

They’re both mediocre

She’s a nonentity from every perspective: looks, charm, sex appeal, talent. She’s an ideal blank slate for the projections of the lonely.

Much like "the grass is greener on the other side" kind of deal.

Sometimes, this turns out to be true, but only because of all the dog poop fertilizing it. So it's a tradeoff, I guess.

Did you see The Favorite?

I couldn't take her to a bar at 4:00 in the afternoon without some random guy trying to steal my seat the first time I went to get a beer.

So your point is that guys who day-drink have shitty taste in women. I agree.
