Matt Smith= Best Doctor Ever?

Ok perhaps not best ever, but i think he is definitely up there on a Top 3 list. Don't get me wrong, David Tennent was cool, but Smith just brings sooooo much more to the role!!

He just oozes charisma and charm, and seems to give his all in every scene he is in. Smith also has such a wide and versatile emotional range. One minute he can be the witty, loveable mad genius type, then shift to heart felt and touching when the scene calls for it, and later in the episode just SNAP and B*tch someone out. All while being very believable and poignant.

I'd also attribute the series recent jump in popularity to Smith's work. Only possible downside is no one else can really shine as much, but i guess thats a given when you have such a great actor/character always stealing the show with great performances.

Smith is amazing thus far.

Any thoughts?

Well, I've only seen NuWho so he's definitely up there in my top 3!

No, really, he's surpassed Christopher Eccleston's Doctor in my eyes (and it hurts like hell to even type that). Tennant was always just...there...for me.

The one thing I really like about watching Doctor Who is it's introduced me to a lot of very talented actors/actresses and Matt is really one of the best.

In my eyes Tom Baker is the one true Doctor of course. But don't get me wrong, Matt Smith, to me, is without question second on my list. I've seen episodes of every doctor, and the Eleventh is wonderful. Better than Eccleston and Tennant in my view. He's captured the quirky weirdness of the Doctor, but made it so youthful that I really enjoy watching him.

You people and your slight differences disgust me.

I like Matt Smith as the Doctor. He has the right level of eccentricity I always expected the character to have but also an element of sadness, as if travelling through space and time has become lonely for him. That's why he worked well with Amy Pond and Rory.

The reason he's lonely is because he's an irritating prat who pulls faces a lot while talking absolute garbage. No-one in their right mind would want to travel with him.

Then why be on his IMDb page if you find him an 'irritating prat'?

The fundamental difference between Smith and Tom Baker is that the latter is a genuine real-life eccentric, whereas the former is only faking it and you can tell. There is something creepy about Smith's Doctor. I half expect him to turn out to be of a Jimmy Saville persuasion.

William Hartnell. You may like Tom Baker best but if there is a "one true Doctor" then it would be Hartnell as he originated the role, had all the qualities you would want from the Doctor; though you may be able to strip the quirks of the following Doctors you can't really take any from Hartnell. The other Doctors all had to live up to his standard and, for any differences in interpretation, they had to keep the core qualities that were set up by the First Doctor, of whom William Hartnell had a large input in the character's development.

Also Troughton had probably the hardest job having to replace the much loved originator of the character. Troughton's Doctor added the overt eccentricity and the Doctor as a crusader. Tom Baker's Doctor started out as more or less a rehash of the Second Doctor in many regards. I, like many, think Troughton's role was the better of the two.

Let's not forget how iconic and popular Pertwee's Doctor was (until it became chic to like the US's favourite Doctor way more than Pertwee) and how much the show grew in popularity in his tenure only to keep losing audience figures as Tom Baker's era dragged on and on (with the exception of 'City of Death' which had the highest rating because ITV was down at the time leaving it with almost no competition).
