What a strange, odd, beautiful creature Matt is!

I'm more than a bit tired and disgusted with all the nasty mean people who insist on berating and disparaging Matt's looks and talent, especially when said Doctor Who fans are comparing him to Tennant, as if Dave is the most "perfect Doctah evah" and none can ever compare. Don't get me wrong, Tennant is an awesome actor and great Doctor (as well as Eccleston for that matter), but for me personally, Matt is just the right mix of weird, alien, and eccentric to encapsulate exactly what the character is all about, including the playful curious, loopy, child-like side alternating with the wise, weary, and ancient alien part of him----and if this description sounds familiar, it should, since it's the way Tom Baker's Doctor (MY DOCTOR, and the greatest evah, IMHO) is frequently described. I'm an old school Doctor Who fan, female, and American, and while I love all the classic Doctors (including the unfairly maligned Sixth and Seventh), Four was my first Doctor, and still my fave. However, as much as I enjoy NuWho and appreciate Nine and Ten, I have to say that Eleven's portrayal bridges the classic and new series the best. Don't get me wrong, as a fangirl (more like fan-broad since I'm in my mid-forties) I find Tennant to be cute as a button, but I'm not letting Dave's looks sway my opinion. Ten may be technically prettier than Eleven, but for me Eleven is way sexier. Of course, back in the day when I first started to watch Doctor Who ("Genesis of the Daleks") in 1984 when I was 18, I simply fell in love with what an inventive show it was (and is, crappy special effects back then notwithstanding), and I went back and watched earlier Doctors than Four and the ones that came after, and all were interesting and fascinating each in his own way, but for me, Tom was and still is the quintessential Doctor for me, and I developed a huge crush on his Doctor----yet, what was unusual for me as teenaged girl then, I actually had the hardest time adjusting to Peter Davison's Doctor even though he's younger, prettier, and blond. At the time my reaction to Five was "He's not my crazy alien Tom!". Fanboys in the Doctor Who club I was in use to chide me for fancying Tom, pointing out that even though he was a brilliant Doctor, how could I find someone so odd looking attractive. Well, Tom's very oddness and alien-ness was what made me adore him so, and those same qualities are what make Matt's Doctor the closest to Tom's in my book. Matt's very striking and distinctive features combined with incredible acting chops for one so young (C'mon, from my middle-aged lady perspective he's a whippersnapper!) make him the best Doctor since Tom Baker's. I simply can't get enough of Matt's performance as the Doctor, and I will be devastated when he leaves. So, as I end my rant, the haters can hate all they want, but some of us recognize and appreciate real quality and beauty, and Matt, you are gorgeous! (And for the record, I'd still love to shag 1970's Tom Baker senseless!!!!)
