Elliot's mental illnesses (I thought that I posted this)

I watched the entire first season and the first episode of the second season, all for the first time, in a marathon session beginning Friday and into Saturday. This is what television can be.

I don't know what Elliot's psych diagnoses are but I know my own and I know that he uses the exact words, the exact sentences, that I've used. The same fear of not being able to differentiate between reality and what I create to survive, creating personas of myself and others to protect my sanity, going into fugue states for safety's sake, on and on.

I had to pause the episodes at times out of fear and crying.

Someone who created Elliot's illnesses did their research or someone who has experience with (amongst other things) schizophrenia, paranoia and DID helped to construct the character. Severe social anxiety. To say that we suppress memories unconsciously isn't quite true - we work pretty hard to find a spot to stuff those memories that we want to avoid. It may be love that we never felt, it may be love that we lost, but the bad memories, the things that we want to avoid, usually boil down to two things... love loss or never present and overarching fear of, well, everything. Fear of being guilty for everything bad. And we punish ourselves. We can never do enough to redeem ourselves. We hide.

I'm a bit surprised that Elliot is as functional as he is. But he's only that functional if he can create an understanding with himself. And he continues to be afraid. I don't recall the exact sentence but when Mr. Robot asks him, "who do you think people see when they see you?" the answer is the most horrifying that it can be.

I don't recall Elliot's prescribed meds being named, nor his diagnoses. Does anyone know if either have been revealed?

I'm glad that I am actually able to watch the episodes as often as I wish and I hope that USA may make this a 22 episode season.

Elliot is, of course, the most intriguing character but Darlene is a close second. She is definitely second only to Elliot when it comes to talent. It seems that their dad died either before she was born or shortly after her birth... something up there.

So. If anyone can point me in any directions where Elliot's mental ailments have been discussed, I would appreciate it!

Elliot seems to me like someone who has Asperger's Syndrome. Where he's awkward socially, but very intelligent;

Asperger syndrome (AS), also known as Asperger's, is a developmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests

His medical record said he had Depression and Social Anxiety.

You are absolutely right. As the series has gone on it's made far more sense that he has Depression and Social Anxiety.
