Elon Musk says Disney boss should be 'fired immediately' amid X ad boycott

Elon Musk has said the Disney chief executive, Bob Iger, should be "fired immediately" after the world's biggest entertainment company joined an advertising boycott of his X platform.

"Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company," Musk said in a series of tweets. "He should be fired immediately."

He has denied his controversial tweet was antisemitic but has apologized, saying it might have been the "dumbest" thing he had ever shared on social media.

"I mean, look, I'm sorry for that … post," he said. "It was foolish of me. Of the 30,000 it might be literally the worst and dumbest post I've ever done. And I've tried my best to clarify six ways from Sunday, but you know at least I think it'll be obvious that, in fact, far from being antisemitic, I'm in fact philosemitic."

Disney declined to comment.

Clearly correct.

The trouble is, Twitter/X needs advertisers like Disney more than they need Twitter/X. There are other social media platforms but there is only one Disney. Musk knows this, that's why he's so pissed off.

reply

Actually, it's the other way around. Disney needs places to advertise badly, because the company is bleeding money at an alarming rate. The fact that they have stopped using X is going to shoot them in the foot, among many other bullets they've shot in their own foot over the past 7 years.

🤣

Which company do you think will still be around in 10 years? It's highly doubtful that it will be X the way things are going. Hemorrhaging advertisers is not a good sign. Disney, on the other hand, is so rich they can afford a few bad years. X is currently only worth $19 billion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter_under_Elon_Musk#Corporate_value), vs. Disney's $205 billion in assets (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walt_Disney_Company).

reply

At the rate Disney is losing customers, and the rate they waste money, just how long do you think that $205 billion is gonna last them? Things are getting pretty bad because people have tuned them out, unsubscribed to Disney+, they don't want their kids watching Disney anymore, people are not buying their products, the studio keeps producing expensive flops, they're starting to sell off property out of desperation, and their parks are now so expensive that your average middle-class person can't afford it anymore.

So I ask you again, who is really going to suffer here? The richest man in the world and his lame social media site, or a company that refuses to learn from its mistakes and is hemorrhaging money and customers?

Elon Musk DOUBLES DOWN, as HUMILIATED “The Marvels” ends Theatrical Run in DISGRACE!

Only days after Elon Musk explicitly called out Bob Iger in front of the entire world, he doubled down, calling Disney’s upcoming slate “unwatchable”. The Marvels and Wish losing Disney half a billion dollars between them is certainly a precursor to that.

Bob Iger appeared at a New York times summit though, hoping to restore confidence, but curtesy of Elon Musk … and himself, but mostly Elon Musk, that backfired rather tremendously.

In this editorial, @AndreEinherjar will begin with an extended look at how Bob Iger blamed literally everyone and everything but himself for Disney’s current troubles of his making. Then we’ll see how Iger created a new adversary in Elon Musk, and how the single greatest problem facing Disney right now, is the company’s own employees!
