Amazing in 'Hail Caesar!'

I never heard of Alden Ehrenreich, I saw 'Blue Jasmine' but I can't remember which role he was playing in the movie.

I went to see 'Hail Caesar!' this Friday and I really liked it. Alden Ehrenreich literally stole show playing the young western actor Hobie Doyle. There was a lot of funny moments involving him and it's fair to say that he stand out in a movie where you have George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, etc.

I'm really hoping this is not a 'one-hit wonder', I understand the character was very well written by the Coen Brothers but I could see him doing more comedies.

Keep up the good work Alden!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for posting this. Alden played Cate Blanchett's estranged son in Blue Jasmine. He had a very dark part in the Gothic thriller, Stoker, and was the lead character in a little seen Young Adult paranormal romance, Beautiful Creatures.

He been working since he was a teen and had a lead in a movie with Francis Ford Coppola at seventeen. I've admired him for quite a while and am overjoyed for his success.

He really did steal the show! I didn't remember seeing him in anything before and I bought his performance hook, line, and sinker. I even thought he really did that lassoing himself!!! (not to mention the hilarious HILARIOUS line readings in the scene with Ralph Fiennes) Terrific character, and a star making performance. Good going Alden.

Had never heard of the guy. He really was a stand-out in this movie. It didn't hurt that he was well lit, shot, made-up, costumed, etc.

reply

Yeah, he definitely was the break-out star of that film. So much more interesting than seeing the old stars go through their usual paces.

Yes, he was lovely. Considering the kid has already worked with Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen, Warren Beatty, Chan-wook Park, and now the Coen Brothers, I doubt he'll be a one-hit wonder.

Without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's.

I completely agree. He was by far my favorite character, with the most compelling story. Such an endearing performance. I had to immediately look him up after seeing the movie.

I killed the crap out of him

Most impressive performance in the movie. His role was not an easy one, as I see it.

His character seemed to be an amalgamation of Audie
Murphy (complete with stature and Texas accent), Elvis (hair, looks and singing first song in movies), and Gene Autry.

Good looks and talent...he stole the movie from all the big stars. He did a great job!
