Are Americans aware of who she is?

No, should they be? I just learned about her and it seems she should have been doing life in prison, she got a plea deal when it looked like the case against the guy and her was open and shut already.

reply

I believe her lawyers withheld some videos that she and Bernardo made that showed she was an active participant in the rapes and killings until after she made the deal.

reply

Yes, but they could have voided the deal because she'd lied in her testimony, shown by the tapes. That's something that often gets left out in stories I read about the case - they had the option of voiding the deal.

According to the documentary I saw on, I think it was HBO Max, they went forward with the deal anyway because they didn't think the MURDER case against her husband was strong enough without her testimony, even though they had smoking gun evidence that Homolka and Bernardo had kidnapped, raped, and tortured the girls. I guess they believed the fact that they'd done those things would not be enough to convince a jury Bernardo also was guilty of their murders beyond a reasonable doubt, or whatever the standard is in Canada.

I'm not sure how influential her testimony was anyway. The tapes showed she was clearly involved herself. The prosecutors felt differently, I guess.

I'm from the USA and I've known about Karla and her equally freaky husband since the trial. Horrific stuff

reply

No we aren't but thank you for not letting it rest until we do. God bless

I'm pretty sure millions of Americans know who she is as there have been dozens of true crime docs sbout her and her sicko hubby.

reply

Yes we are. Anyone who listens to true crime knows of the Ken and Barbie Killers.
