BAD Choices In Acting Career

I really really like Deborah Ann Woll as and actor and I think she does a great job in 'True Blood' and 'Seven Days in Utopia'. However, it is making choices like staring in 'Seven days in Utopia' that are killing her ability to reach out to a wider audience than just the HBO audience. She has the talent to become an A-list star but she is blowing it by accepting B- and C-type movie roles. Am I the only one who is seeing a Great Actress Blowing her chance to become a superstar????

Well Deborah was good enough to take a small bit role into a full time part of the show. After Bill made Jessica and dropped her off on Eric. We were only going to see Jessica a few more time after that in the back ground at Fangtasia. But the writers, producers and fans liked Jessica.

And this last season critics were calling the last season of True Blood her break out season. And Deborah has said she wouldn't have had her break out if she wasn't paired with Jim Parrack for the last few seasons.

As for breaking out in to the A list. She's going to have to have a agent that knows how to get her top line parts in movies and shows. That's not going to happen until the show ends or she leaves the show.

A few years I remember talking to Bruce Campbell. And he said there are five phases in Hollywood. And because we're talking about Deborah, I'll use her name. It goes something like this.

1. Who's Deborah Ann Woll.
2. Get me Deborah Ann Woll.
3. Get me a person that looks like Deborah Ann Woll.
4. Get me a Deborah Ann Woll type.
5. Who's Deborah Ann Woll.

Right now Deborah is at step #1 moving into step #2. I for one want to see her in more projects. I don't want to see her disapear at all.

That was coined by Mary Astor.

Ok. But that's how Bruce Campbell broke it down.

I think it is so cool you have talked to Bruce Campbell, he is one of my favorite actors.

He is cool, if you don't mind people who ruthlessly plagiarize Mary Astor.

According to your thought process Deborah has a horrible agent and that is the entire story. Not to say that she doesn't have a bad agent, but she still has to approve the movies that she is in. She has to realize that making B to D movies don't make her a superstar. She is a great actress and I want to see her succeed as an actress, but making D rated movies doesn't mean she will succeed.

reply

That is exactly the point. Making D-rated movies will not allow her to succeed as and actress. There is a difference between a D-rated movie and being an art house movie. And the movies she has made, beyond her work with "True Blood", have been D-rated movies. At least an art house movie will have a cult following where as what she has made doesn't have a following at all.

Mary Astor is currently in the "Who's Mary Astor?" phase and has been for 70 years. I thank Bruce for his "plagiarism" in bringing back a worthwhile quote.
