Ruining 'Shameless' with his horrible line-reading

I think the more the show starts focusing on his character's subplots the more unnerving it has become. There's something...off, almost borderline creepy, about some of this kid's line-reading. He has very little talent as an actor to begin with, but the awkward line-readings make it stand out all the more. I really hope season four doesn't get bogged down by him.

What Would Gibson Do?

He does great. I don't mind his character. He is a lucky kid.

I get that he plays a sociopathic kid, but he plays his character like he's on mind numbing tranquillizers 24/7. Let's just say he isn't the most talented teen actor...

Thank God I am not the only one! I think the character of Carl could be so great, but he makes me genuinely uncomfortable whenever he talks. He really has no talent.

He really does

Agreed. I can't believe this was the best the show runners could do casting wise.

He is a good actor, the character of Carl IS creepy, oviously he does a great job with it. Commenters here don't like him because he portrays his unlike able character so well, it's not the kid, it is his the acting. so you proved he is a good actor by not liking him. He follows direction very well, this is what the directors want from him, this is what he gives. Every kid portrayed on TV does not and should not be portrayed as eloquent and perfect, all bubblegum and fun, all real kids aren't like that, anyway. The show - and his acting, are very entertaining because of the diversion from 'normal'. This little actor also has a great reputation in the industry for being able to do exactly what the directors and writers want. Many adults can't even handle that.

Wow...I don't know whether I've ever disagreed with a post more than yours.

I'm pretty sure most viewers know the people they watch on TV are playing a part. If you're over the age of five, I'm pretty sure you realize you're not watching real life unfold on TV.

How ridiculous!

I'm sorry but the kid is an awful, uncoordinated actor who really does bring the show down. I actually think the character is OK, but the actor is awful. Every time I watch this kid, I roll my eyes because he doesn't fit the part at all.

Like somebody previously posted, he runs like a girl. I suppose that's a sexist comment; however, I understand his/her point. That run...and walk...is goofy as hell. There is no way anybody can believe a kid as uncoordinated as that could be a bad @$$.

Again, character good, actor bad. There are a lot of actors who could've easily pulled that part off. Unfortunately, Shameless casted one of the few kids who would grow up to be awful at selling Carl's character.

The writers should have adapted to the actors limited abilities instead of trying to give him a story he couldn't pull off.

Oh well...I usually look at my phone or do something else when his parts come on. It's a struggle to watch such a miscast.

But hey...good for that kid. I'm sure he's ecstatic about having that gig. I just wish he'd work harder at his craft. It's no wonder that he really hasn't been in anything else--and prob won't be.
