Victoria

I can't wait to see him as Albert.

I just wanted to say that.

And also, Tom Hughes is beautiful. I've been a fan since 2010's Cemetery Junction. He should be more famous.

Hughes doesn't have the acting chops or the gravitas to play Prince Albert. Then again, Jenna Coleman doesn't have what it takes to play Victoria either.

Dont be so sure of that.

reply

He reminds me of the Monty Python sniveling little rat-faced git. His work does not impress me. He's too modern to fold into a period piece, let alone with such a complex character.

That's your opinion. I think he's doing a damn fine job as Prince Albert! He's very compelling to watch.

reply

I agree, isigha. I enjoyed him in Silk, have seen in a few other things, and think he makes an excellent Prince Albert.

How could you possibly know that? What are your qualifications to make judgments about such things?

This may surprise you, but EVERYONE has "qualifications" to GIVE THEIR OPINION!

If you knew how to argue, you would know that. (Most of us learned how to argue in college English 101 or high school debate class; I have no idea how you missed both opportunities. It is taught early on because it is not possible to pass a single college class without knowing how to argue.) I will assume that you are still in early high school, or you would know all of this. You can remedy your lack of knowledge by taking a class at your local community college, or, check a book out of the library and attempt to teach yourself.

Aside from the basic notion of "free speech," we also have the responsibility of staying "on topic" which is "Tom Hughes" in this instance. Your fellow posters are NEVER the topic! They are private individuals who have a right to post their opinions, and not be lambasted for having an opinion (which is all they are able to post, other than FACTS and we already have the facts). You need to know the difference between objective and subjective, between opinion and fact. Finally, and most important, ad hominem attacks are NEVER appropriate; in fact, they would render you disqualified in formal debate.

You are NOT the arbiter of the Internet; no one is required to only post those opinions that YOU approve of or agree with. The fact that you do not agree is of no import or concern. If you appreciate, or despise, or are bored by, Tom Hughes, give us YOUR opinion of him, and allow others to hold theirs.

Dial it back, Kellyanne Conway. You're talking "smack." There is no debate in progress, and you do not get to decide the parameters of replies.

The right to express an opinion surely implies the right to express a contrary opinion.

Asking greenegg his qualifications to boldly assert that Tom Hughes "doesn't have the acting chops or the gravitas to play Prince Albert" in Victoria is surely on topic in a thread called "Tom Hughes (XVIII) : Victoria."

Considering that Tom Hughes was cast for the role by people who likely possess professional experience in casting, I have to wonder what credentials, if any, greenegg has to judge that "Hughes doesn't have the acting chops or the gravitas to play Prince Albert."

As for your assumptions about my education... I completed AP courses, including AP English, in high school. I received my BS (with honors) in computer engineering from the University of California San Diego; in addition to the university's entry-level writing requirement, students are also required to demonstrate college-level writing skills by the successful completion of a sequence of university courses in writing. I received my JD (with honors) from UCLA.
