Do you think she is a good actor?

I've seen five of her films. I think she has a lot of potential and talent. She is very likeable and charming in her roles and elevates the films she is in. She seems like a very sweet and lovely young lady.

FFS, Steven.

Is anything I said false?

reply

Her being a young lady.

reply

She is young and female, so it is accurate. She is 14, a teenager, so it is appropriate to call her a young lady.

reply

A lady is an adult.

la·dy
/ˈlādē/
noun
1.
a woman (used as a polite or old-fashioned form of reference).
"I spoke to the lady at the travel agency"

2.
a woman of superior social position, especially one of noble birth.
"lords and ladies and royalty were once entertained at the house"

reply

And she is a young lady, because she is not yet an adult.

reply

A young lady would be a an adult who is young. You wouldn't call an 12-year-old a young adult. Well, maybe you would.

"Noun
young lady (plural young ladies)

Used other than figuratively or idiomatically: see young,‎ lady.
A term of endearment or admonishment by adults for a young girl."

reply

An 18-year-old is a young girl.

reply

I don't think an 18 year old would want to be referred to as young girl. I asked Chat GPT and here is what it said:

The term "young lady" is subjective and can vary depending on context and cultural norms. Generally, it refers to a female who is in her youth or early adulthood. However, the exact age range can differ widely based on individual perspectives. Some might consider a "young lady" to be in her teenage years, while others might extend it into her twenties or even thirties. It's a term that's more about perception and context rather than a specific age range.

reply

Yes "teen years" can be 18 or 19, therefore an adult.

reply

14 is also teen years, so it can be acceptable, in some contexts, to refer to someone that age as a young lady.

reply

No, because 14 isn't a woman, nor a lady.

reply

14 is often considered to be a young woman or young lady. You are getting too hung up on the literal meaning of words as opposed to the way people use them in society. You are an unusual young man.

reply

Let me guess: age ain't nothing but a number?

reply

No, I never said that.

reply

But you were thinking it?

reply

"“Young Lady” is a term best used for girls under age 15 — or by age 21 at the very latest. "

reply

It shouldn’t matter how you look or what your age is. “Young Lady” is a compliment for the 13-year-old dressed up for a wedding; “What a beautiful young lady you are!” For anyone else, at any age over 18, it’s demeaning. We mature women must stop being so self-deprecating.
She's acknowledging what the definition is, she just doesn't agree with it.
