I've only seen it with the KTL score and while I did think it worked, I couldn't help but feeling it was anachronistic at times. I swear when it first started I thought it was more suited to a film like Se7en and it made me think of Nine Inch Nails. Just this dark, eerie atmosphere that pervades everything and almost feels "dirty" in a way. I don't think it's something that would have been produced in the 1920s (but then I'm no music major), but the dark ambience worked well with the film and I was genuinely unnerved in some scenes. So I guess you'd call that successful. Now that I have seen it in this form I doubt I can watch it with an orchestral score. It would completely alter my perception, I imagine.
