How do I see this movie?

I read about this movie from a book I have purchased and if anybody out there knows how it is possible to see this movie, it is neither avaliable on dvd or vhs so..... does that mean I have to wait for this to come out some day in the distant future or is there some other way...?

it IS available at the swedish film institute. their online store is located at www.smultronstallet.com. just make sure your player can handle european vhs...

Smultronstallet? That's awesome! I bet it's named after the Bergman film.

And as far as where to get this, I don't know, but if your looking for other old difficult to find films, many are available on Netflix.com, they have a stupendous catalog.

The Tarten release of the dvd looks really good. I was very impressed with their recent "grindhouse" releases (which I have almost all of so far now) and a trailer for the film is on about 3 of them. I already have my copy pre ordered!

It is currently be scored on a Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe organ and will be released through Grapevine Video in both the Swedish version with English titles and a reconstructed version of the 1922 Metro U.S. release. So you will have the ability to see the original and how Metro reorganized the order of shots for the American release. THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT does not actually exsist and this release has be reconstructed based upon the detailed review of the film in the trade magazine Variety.
I was present last night (24 Jan. 2008) for the recording of THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE score -- and it was very effectively done by master organist Blaine Gale. This evening I will be there for the recording of THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT version of the film.
This should make for a fascinating study of a true early masterpiece of the silent cinema. I'll keep you posted as news of the DVD release becomes available.

I highly recommend picking up (or downloading) the KTL Edition of this film. I watched it for the first time tonight (having not seen the film with any other audio before) and the dark, occasionally dense soundtrack really benefits it. By keeping the mood of the music very gloomy all the way, it holds the atmosphere on edge even throughout the less intense bits. Which in turn accentuates the key scenes further.

I also noticed at the end that it was scored by the group KTL, who include Stephen O' Malley of Sunn0))) and other dark experimental & heavy bands. It all made sense to me after I saw his name in the subititled credits!

I bought the Tartan release yesterday; I don't know if it's the same with all copies, but on mine the discs were labelled the wrong way round - The Phantom Carriage was labelled Image Makers, Image Makers was labelled The Phantom Carriage.

Latest film seen: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (2008) 5/5

I'm not sure which soundtrack version this is, but the Criterion Collection on Hulu Plus has this film. Also, it's apparently available at the Internet Archive. I just started watching it and wanted to check on some things before I got past the opening titles (I wasn't sure what the character names meant).
