Happy 90th Anniversary!!!

This week marks the 90th anniversary of BEN-HUR: A TALE OF THE CHRIST. Its production shares many similarities with CLEOPATRA (1963): production delays, cast and crew changes, an overhaul by the producer, etc. Like that film, it made a profit, but not enough to fulfill its much increased budget (it stands as the most expensive film in the silent era). However, whereas CLEOPATRA lives in infamy, BEN-HUR gained prestige and fame, giving much recognition to the newly-formed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Nine decades later, it still stands as a remarkable film.
