Is this a reversed story of Adam and Eve?
There are spoilers here so don't read this if you have not seen the film.
I think Sunrise is in a way a reversed version of the story of Adam and Eve. It begins in disaster and ends in unity. The Man is like Adam and the Woman like Eve. Their marriage is falling apart because of a woman from the city is using the man, stealing his money and even tries to get the man to kill his wife. The city woman is dressed in black, shiny, snakelike dress and even dances like a snake. She is later in the film shown lying in a tree (like a snake) and observe the tragedy unfolding down at the lake.
Now the man changes his mind about killing his wife when the church bell chimes. He later breaks down in a church and has some kind of redemption there. He is shown kneeling in front of his wife's bed in the end of the film, with the shadows of the window frames forming a cross above him.
The film then ends with the man and the woman in harmony again (Eden) and the city woman (the snake) being driven back to the city (out of paradise).
Any thoughts?
