As to the film titles being silent until the "Cast of Characters" appears: It was not that way in the original release. The sound track is missing from the first portion of the film. On some earlier releases of the film this silent portion has been filled in with another selection from the score. Hugo Riesenfeld, who arranged the score, of course used several classical selections. He also used the talents of band leader Paul Whiteman for the dance sequences at the fairgrounds. In addition, he wrote some original themes for the film. All in all, it is a remarkable score for a remarkable film.
