It's a bit disingenuous for McCrea's character to be completely shocked and upset when he finds out about Bennett's prior relationship. After all, he met her when she came to his apartment and posed for him as a nude model. Then they start sleeping together and basically living together. What exactly did he think she was doing before? Living with her parents and going to debutante balls?
