King Kong or Godzilla?

Which is your favorite and why?

Godzilla. He had a whole series of films that I watched on USA network during my childhood in the late 80s. Kong had like 1 film and a remake at that point. Plus Godzilla movies where really about godzilla and our response to him. Kongs introduction took like half the movie where as godzilla had already been introduced in the 1954 version so we got straight to godzilla in the later films.

Godzilla had multi roles as well. Some times he was the villian some times he was our friend some times he was just an innocent clumsy but cuddly fool that just wondering into cities so we actully felt bad for him when he got attacked. He's just too likable. Kong on the other hand was just an angry dick that killed people with intention.

Agree. Godzilla rules!
King Kong couldn't beat King Ghidorah or the Smog Monster.
King Kong is just a stupid giant ape that got killed by some bi-planes. Godzilla has shrugged off missiles from F-16's.
And most importantly, King Kong never came up with a sweet victory dance like this:

I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers that dance. Or the time that godzilla fly by curling his tail in a circle and blowing his radiation breath. Or more recently when godzilla played kick ball with angirus as the ball. How could you not love that guy. He's adorable.

I relate to King Kong more. Godzilla is cool but poor King Kong is forcibly kidnapped from his homeland by a bunch of greedy jerks and then is put in chains and put on display to be hounded by a bunch of other greedy people with cameras and then takes the one person that shows him kindness and is then killed at the top of a big building. Godzilla could have been content just roaming abandoned islands but decided to go to a populated area. He then starts burning down an entire city and is rightfully blown to smithereens by a nuclear bomb.

King kongs all right but he's an ass hole before he even gets off the island. And he's a racist. Notice how abngry he gets and even kills all the black females sacrriised to him but only calms down when they throw a white girl at him.

reply

Bad juju to kill white woman

reply

Well, yeah. But it still doesn't take away from the fact that they shouldn't have kidnapped him from his homeland and put him in uncomfortable situations.

reply

Yea yea we heard it all before. Thats right up there with "I'm sure there are good people on both sides" talking about white nationalists. Kong was a klans men case closed.

Godzilla. He's more of a mythical beast that grew a personality as the films go on. Godzilla had bit of mystery and mythos that grew around him. King kong on the other hand is just an aggressive oversidez pissed off ape.

Godzilla! King Kong has no camp value, but Godzilla always has!

Seriously, the first "King Kong" movie is excellent, far better than any movie featuring performers in reptile suits. But I grew up on Toho studios movies, I'll always love the over-the-top ridiculousness of giant fake monsters attacking Japan, the increasingly ridiculous monsters, and teams of scientists that always include a small boy. I love the cheesiness and sincerity of those old Japanese films, and for some reason I love the entire genre in a way I've never loved "King Kong". And it's not just nostalgia, for all its excellence somehow "King Kong" never hit me where I lived. There's a theory that King Kong himself represents the subconscious mind of the director character, the straight male subconscious ego or libido. And i'm not a straight man.
