modern times was good, but not as good as city lights

i just thought that modern times didn't have the kind of laughs it did as there were in city lights. i think that city lights was the funnier of the two. anyone care to collaborate on that?

I agree that "City Lights", was a superior film in terms of emoitional involvement. But as far as comedy goes, I have to say that "Modern Times" wins for me, but just barely.

Some of the scenes in Modern Times were hilarious though! example: when the Tramp is running away from those who want the girl at the restaurant and does that funny thing with the chairs. But overall, i liked City Lights a lot more

personally I like City Lights a little more.
but forget it, both are so brilliant!!!

"City Lights" is incredible! So moving and powerful, especially the end.

I think in terms of sheer laughs, "The Great Dictator" is better that "Modern Times" as well.

there are at least four chaplin's movies better than modern times: i mean "city lights", "the gold rush", "the great dictator" and "the kid". then it comes. It's one of my favorite pictures, but i think chaplin did something better, as i've just explained. paulette goddard is wonderful and charlie is funnier than in city lights, but in this film he renders a fenomenal expression in every step he makes, in every laugh, in every move. It's emotional, incredible and unfogettable. To me City Lights is the best movie ever.

I thought there were more laughs in 'Modern Times'.

I know the meaning of life, it doesn't help me a bit.

I have to admit that I thought that the ending of _Modern Times_ is a little off-putting in the sense that nobody seems to care what is going to happen to Paulette Goddard's little sister. Also, if the truant officers were after her, that makes Goddard's character kind of underage. Given Charlie Chaplin's own real life biography, that might make sense, but if you tried to make that movie today, it would have to end with Chaplin's character being sent to prison for sexually abusing a minor. . .

No, City Lights is superior. Modern Times is great, but just doesnt have that extra spark.

Last film seen: Robert Bresson's Pickpocket - Brilliant!

City lights was better as a film, but not quite as funny as Modern times

I think that MODERN TIMES was much funnier. But that CITY LIGHTS was more touching and special.
