Would the original ending have worked?
MODERN TIMES originally ended with the Tramp and the Gamine being separated forever. She becomes a nun while he's in the hospital. As he walks into the sunset alone, she sadly imagines her younger self running after him, but remains with her order.
Personally, I find this ending needlessly grim and inorganic to the story. The more optmistic finale works so much better. Anyone agree or do you think the original ending could have worked?
