That Grandfather! Ugh!
If they were going for a stubborn but lovable old Irishman with the grandfather character, they really missed the mark. This guy was a an arrogant, lazy alcoholic who treated everyone around him like crap, especially the daughter and granddaughter who are supposedly the apples of his eye.
He refuses to shake hands or even talk to his incredibly patient son in law, while being perfectly willing to live off live largesse for 20 years. He's manipulative to his poor granddaughter. When he is somewhat redeemed at the end, it didn't do anything for me at all. Too little too late.
