George Sanders Role?

There are discussions on other threads here about Rebecca's "indescretions" with both men and women,the Sander's character included.Also there is implied, as well as could be, a relationship between Rebecca and her personal maid (Mrs Danvers?)They were always making discreet little comments to each other, esp when Sanders was cutting through the house...why would he even have been there a year after her death? And was the introduction as "cousin" just a diversion for what had been an admitted relationship between them? Wasn't there something going on between Sanders and "Dani", some sort of conspiracy...I think they both loved Rebecca, and each knew it. All in all, a lot of twists and turns and a number of vague areas.

Sometimes I get the feeling that Favell may have had some feelings for Maxim; his relationship with Rebecca was a vicarious way of consummating that
relationship. Rebecca, who was game for anything or anyone, would have gone along with this setup as she would have thought it was a great joke on both
Maxim and Favell--the baby would be both Favell's, biologically, and Max's,
as the heir to the estate. He did seem to like hanging around Manderley a little too often after Rebecca's death; if he wanted to simply blackmail Maxim he might
have been a little more proactive about finding evidence of her supposed murder.
But being with Max, even to watch him squirm, was just too pleasurable to give
up easily. And his snide insinuation to Frank Crawley about how willing Crawley would be
to stick around and comfort the second Mrs. deWinter once Maxim was arrested
and sentenced for murder--it seemed to highlight his disgust of Maxim's fondness for his wife and Crawley's innocent loyalty.
