Which do you prefer: "Shop Around ... or "In the Good Old Summertime"?

"Shop Around the Corner" was made in 1940 with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. "In the Good Old Summertime" was made in 1949 with Judy Garland and Van Johnson. So one of those meaningless exercises: do you have a preference for one over the other.

To me they are both excellent, but the musical is more enjoyable for the songs and the presence of Judy Garland.

I prefer shop Around. The musical is okay, but it can't beat the original.

I also prefer the musical play She Loves Me to Summertime because the songs are all in character and advance the plot.

With no disrespect to Judy Garland, who's almost always sublime, it's no contest. The Shop Around the Corner is a winner for all times.

I used to think I knew everything about the world. Now I just know that it's round.

Shop. I much prefer the actors, especially Margaret Sullavan to Judy Garland. I don't care for Buster Keaton at all, and I'm not a fan of musicals.

I love Buster Keaton, but I much prefer The Shop Around the Corner, primarily because of James Stewart, but I also really like the rest of the characters. William Tracy (Pepi) steals every scene he's in.

I prefer the musical, but this film is excellent as well. I think Margaret Sullavan was miscast in this movie.

Jim Hutton (1934-79) & Ellery Queen = 

The Shop Around The Corner.. I like Judy Garland. Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan is such perfection. Its such charming movie that captures magic of these type of classic movies.

Shop is funnier and the characters feel more real. Doesn't help that I don't like any of the songs in Summertime. I also prefer the authentic setting in Budapest.
