Region 2 dvd

Hi, I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me.

I live in the UK and really really want this film on DVD, but it's only available to buy second hand on region 1. I know you can 'hack' into your region 2 DVD player to watch region 1 DVDs on it, but I really don't want to do that!

Does anybody know why this film hasn't been released in the UK?

reply

I live in the Region 2 area and I bought the DVD from Amazon. I think that it is an All region DVD or something like this. It was not bought directly from Amazon but through an external seller and I think the DVD is Korean judging from the language on the back. Anyway, it played absolutely fine and I had no problems with the delivery of the product or anything.

Please explain why you "really don't want to do that!"?

When normally all this ammounts to is typing in a 4 digit code on the remote control then everything works.

Hi. I wasn't keen on hacking my dvd player as I had heard this could mess it up. I didn't realise it was just typing in a code, perhaps I should have researched the process a bit better!

Anyway, I found an 'all region' dvd on ebay, I think that is coming from Korea, so maybe it is the same dvd edition as the one sold on Amazon (I don't think you can buy it from Amazon anymore, I had a look.)

Thanks for your replies :)

The all-region one is probably a bootleg, but you probably won't notice a difference, to see about 'hacking' your dvd player just google the model number and 'region crack'

What you have to do to remove the region lock from a DVD player can vary quite a bit from model to model (or at least from manufacturer to manufacturer).

Many of them are just an unpublished (in the owner's manual, that is) command key sequence on the remote. At the other end of the spectrum, there are some models where you have to solder a jumper on a circuit board inside the player.

At least that is true for players made for the American market. My older Sony player would have required that kind of a hardware hack (I decided not to mess with that). My comparatively newer Oppo player was a simple command sequence on the remote.

Sony's are more restrictive for the obvious reason that they also have a movie studio.

Most other brands aren't as restrictive
