THE WESTERNER makes its overdue DVD debut May 13, 2008, on the MGM/UA label (issued by Fox), where all the Goldwyn films now reside. They'll also be releasing Gary Cooper's MAN OF THE WEST, as well as DAY OF THE OUTLAW, THE GUNFIGHT AT DODGE CITY and MAN WITH THE GUN.
shareI just watched "The Westerner" again just to see that scene when Coop cuts a lock of hair from the heroine. Its the greatest hair-cutting scene in cinema history!

Personally I like the scene with him and Brennan each pouring an entire bottle of Rub o' the Brush into their glass mugs! Plus Brennan's earlier admonition, after Coop spills a few drops: "Careful, son -- it'll eat right through the bar."
The real "Judge" Roy Bean was something of a psychopath who never met Lily Langtry, but it's kind of nice that he does in this fictionalized story. "The law west of the Pecos."
