And "Batman". Yes, wealthy bachelors love to adopt little boys!
Seriously, the odds are that Thatcher was married, or had been at some point, a 19th century professional man was expected to marry and live as an exemplary middle-class family man. She may have died comparatively young, or maybe she was just never important enough to Kane to rate a mention in the script, but I've always vaguely assumed there were no Thatcher children. If there had been, then Kane wouldn't have felt so isolated as a child. And seriously, I don't get any kind of creepy vibe from the relationship, just the commonplace resentment an egotistical and entitled man feels for anyone who tries to tell him what to do, a resentment that's particularly strong if the authority figure is right about anything.
