Does anyone know how this movie's storyline became so drastically different from both the book and the Chaney film? I know the writers of this film initially intended the Phantom to be Christine's father, but how did they get to that point in the first place?
shareI have nothing to support my theory, but I think they might have been influenced by Mystery of the Wax Museum (1931).
There is some similarity in the back stories of Erique Claudin and Ivan Igor.
Both are failing geniuses who had their life's work stolen from them and were hideously disfigured.
Both were obsessed with a young beauty who would ultimately be their downfall.
Both had a penchant for masks and cloaks and wide brimmed hats.
