In the end of the movie were Esther and John engaged? It kind of looks like she told him no.
shareThis is one of my favorite movies. I always felt that at the end of the movie they were not engaged, but that eventually they would marry. In the movie it seemed like he was about 17 or 18. While people married younger, John would have gone to college first and perhaps they would have married when he was about 20 or 21 and still in college or right after he graduated.
