Michael Feinstein Insights

TCM aired Rhapsody in Blue last night with commentary before and after by Michael Feinstein. Turns out Michael was friends with Ira Gershwin. Although the film glossed over or avoided negative aspects of George Gershwin's life, brother Ira thought "they got the music right." He agreed to bring George's life to the screen for the money earned by the estate from the licensing of his music.

Negative aspects? There were negative aspects of George Gershwin's life? What are these "negative aspects" of which you speak? :)

reply

The depiction of his personal life was inaccurate as was the case in other Warner's composer bios of the era, Yankee Doodle Dandy and Night and Day.
