Is this movie based on a true story?
I wonder. Anyone could tell me?

This is a difficult answer, because I don't have the source, but yes, I had read someplace that Hichens work, though clearly fiction, was vaguely based on two prominent murder trials, one from I believe the 1880s, and the other the noted Fahmy Case from 1923 . . .
I thought I had read that in one of the reviews for the book---however, I checked the reviews in the New York Times and both the London Times, and the Times Literary Supplement, however, none of the reviews so state--- I did read this someplace but now I don't remember . . . Here's a bit from the Times:

New York Times, Wednesday, July 11, 1923, p. 1, c. 4:
Egyptian Prince Shot in a London Hotel;
His French Bride Held as His Slayer
London, July 10---Ali Kemal Fahmy Bey, a wealthy young Egyptian, who is reputed to be a Prince, was found shot through the head in the corridor of the fourth floor of the Savoy Hotel this morning. He died a few hours later.

Okay, in the case from the '80s, the woman was convicted (sorry, I can't recall the name of the case, though it too received wide publicity)----however, in Sept. 1923 Madame Fahmy was acquited! A most unusual case . . . sorry it took so long to respond, I did have the answer, but I was trying all these weeks to find the source, where I read about this, but I cannot recall, only the gist of the info, and this Fahmy case . . . for more on the Fahmy Case please check the indices to both newspapers mentioned above . . .
Remember though, The Paradine Case, is a work of fiction, and must stand as such, it really has no relationship with the above two cases . . . I looked into this some years back, it may have been the British volume on biographies of noted people, or someplace . . .
Thank you very much

of course . . . of course . . . only I'm sorry I can't remember the source for this---somewhere I read it was partially, or vaguely based on two cases---for the Fahmy case the London Times gave detailed accounts . . . I believe in the first case from the '80s the woman was charged with poisoning her husband, and was convicted, in the '23 case Madame Fahmy, for whatever reasons, was acquited . . .
