Mr. Sullivan Was A Strong Supporter Of TV Censorship

His long running show made that obvious. They even requested some singers to alter the lyrics of their songs for the show's broadcast. A good example was when the Doors appeared and were scheduled to sing, "Light My Fire".

Ed and his cronies wanted the words, "Girl, we couldn't get much higher to be changed." The Doors agreed, but when they performed, they didn't alter one word of their song. Ed was furious, of course, about that.

I think editing such words was understandable. Also the Rolling Stones "Let's Spend the Night Together".
The thing that gets me is suppressing any sensuality. When Teresa Brewer spun her skirt in 1959 showing her legs the camera changed to a higher position.

There was also an Elvis Presley preformance in which he was shot only from the shoulders up, so the home audience couldn't see his pelvis gyrating.
