Amazing

I checked the ratings on this film.

Across age groups, on average, men of all ages enjoy this film more than females. I would have thought it was more appealing to women.

Interesting. I wonder what is pushing the young females away. Jealousy over Moira's gorgeous red hair?

Consider the ratings from Powell & Pressburger's other film "Black Narcissus" where it seems to be the cat's meow for teenage girls.

Then again, "Red Shoes" lacks Mr. Dean.

It is more accurate to say "Across age groups, on average, men of all ages who have voted enjoy this film more than females who have voted."
The votes are really a very small sub-set of the total audience

But the females over 45 who voted rated it higher than the males over 45 who voted

One of the classic comments about this film is that it made thousands of little girls want to be ballerinas - despite the hard work that is shown and the sad end that Vicky came to

I'm female and this is my favourite film from the 40s, it's just amazing.

Female here too, and Red Shoes is my number one favorite of dance musical movies.

I'm a guys guy. I like gangster films, horror films and I absolutely detest musicals. I saw the IMDb score for this and I thought maybe I should check it out to see if it deserves an 8.3.

Much to my surprise, I loved this film. The acting, writing, directing, art direction. There were quite a few deep focus shots which added tot he atmosphere. I like how they only showed the one extensive dance sequence rather than having me sit through 7 or 8 sprinkled throughout.

I gave it an 8/10.
