Why Didn't She Call The Police

She knew she was in danger, but never asked the police to come to her rescue. She asked the doctor to come to her home, even called the hospital and requested that a nurse stay with her. But not the police.

reply

She called the police early on and they said there was nothing they could do. What proof had she that the killers were actually going to come after her? until it was too late that is.

reply

Why do people ask such questions about movies when the answer is obvious? If Logic were employed, there'd be no film! End of story!

reply

I think she called the police right away (scene of cop with baby), but at that point she didn't realize she was the intended victim. Of course, she should have called them back, but she was pretty hysterical then. Besides, she might have been rescued!

Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

reply

At 11:00 pm, she picked up the phone and asked the operator for the police -- then she changed her mind and asked for "the hospital" so she could get a nurse for the night.

Maybe she changed her mind at the last second because she wanted attention for the entire night, not just get a quick welfare check.

She didn't have time to explain the whole story to a policeman who would likely brush her off like the last one, and she didn't want to implicate her husband. She felt that a nurse would rush right over, no questions asked.

reply

I'd take the view that a cop would probably be of more use for stopping a hitman who's coming to whack me than a nurse would. ("Officer, there's a man outside my window waving a gun around!") But this isn't a film noted for its realism.

"I beseech ye in the bowels of Christ, think that ye may be mistaken."

Come to think of it, at the end she hung up on Henry. How about if instead she'd handed the phone to the killer and said "My husband would like a word with you"? After that they could have enjoyed a nice cup of tea. Ah well.

"I beseech ye in the bowels of Christ, think that ye may be mistaken."

reply

I don't think the killer knew who her husband was. I think he was hired by another party for the hit so I don't think it would have done any good if the killer had talked to the husband. But I thought about it, in the end it probably was good it went off as it did. She had psychological problem and she would not have changed and probably would have still treated him the way she always had and he still would be in the same situation. I guess he felt this was the only way out of it other than trying to get her psychological help. I recall on the phone she said she would have gladly given him the money if he asked. Well she is saying that now that she is in a bad situation. Prior to that she wasn't in that attitude and most likely would have berated him as she always done if he had asked her.
