The Song that Michael sings in this film...?

Does anyone know the title of the song that Michael(Melvyn Martin, or a dubbed-in performer) sings at the piano in this film?

I can't find reference to it anywhere.

Thanks for any info

In the beginning credits it states the name of the song, "Were You Smiling at Me" and directly underneath is Melvyn Martin's name. So I guess we can assume that he wrote it? I've tried to find it in various places too without any luck - but at least it is always available to us within the film.

Thanks a million. Duh, I forgot to go back and look at the credits.

I am researching this song and nothing turns up. Perhaps Martin did write it. But how could he have written such a fine song and remain obscure?

If I find out any more I will post here

Merci encore!

He's not in the ASCAP Biographical Dictionary - and you only need to have one song performed in public and/or recorded to become a member - so possibly it was a one-off.

Yeah, the credits say "Words and music by Melvyn Martin."
