Did anyone else hate Elizabeth's wedding dress in 'FotB'??

Am I the only one who hated Elizabeth's wedding dress in the movie? I thought it looked like a mishmash of designs that just didn't work together, and the style was so priggish. It was almost like Frankenstein's monster, how it was made from bits and pieces of other dresses.

I also didn't like Liz's hair... it was a bit messy, which is odd, considering how impeccable it was throughout the movie.

As TCfoxfan says, don't forget that both the wedding gown and the hairdo were the height of fashion at the time. I remember reading somewhere that that particular wedding dress was extremely popular for years after the movie came out, with brides-to-be insisting "I want a wedding dress just like Elizabeth Taylor's in 'Father of the Bride'!" :-)

Actually it was the formal gown she wore in "A Place in the Sun" that became THE most copied and requested Prom gown.

I love the dress. Very conservative (I hate the no neck sleeveless gowns that is all the rage today). I would wear such a gown to my own wedding-if I ever DO decide to find a man.

Not a fan of short hair as a rule. My hair is short but still long enough for a mini pony.

I didn't like it either.

Hello out there....The style of her and dress are from the 1950's. Yes, they are dated, but they reflected the style of the day.

Next it will be "I don't like the toga's in Cleopatra."

It's "togas".

Horray, well at least you can spell. You have that going for you....maybe?

I agree, it was a mishmosh. Surprising, because all of Helen Rose's other designs in the film were great. I liked her in short hair, though.

Remember also that Ms Taylor is tiny, only barely over 5 feet tall and at the time of filming probably weighed 90 pounds soaking wet, it must have been tough for Edith Head to supply a dress that was glamorous and photographed well.

Don't touch that!
Why Not?
It does very bad things...

FYI and BTW, Helen Rose also designed the wedding gown Grace Kelly wore when she married Prince Ranier. (...and was Edith Head p*&%ed!)

The dress is typical of its era--dowdy and fussy. However, the dress ET wore to her own wedding to Nicky Hilton was much prettier. Dislike Taylor's hair in this period. But again, long hair had gone out of style. Those crimped little do's were in. (She is far more attractive in "A Date With Judy" and "Love Is Better Than Ever" with long hair.) I don't mind her 1950's pixie cut so much, but in general, her features were more flattered by longer "bigger" hair.
