gene kelly stands alone from behind

Okay, has anyone else noticed that Gene Kelly's backside, for a "classic" movie star is amazing?! There were other ripped, hunky stars, I'm thinking Clark Gable in his prime, and Burt Lancaster. But Gene Kelly's physique was outstanding.

Can you name any other Golden Era actors who compare?

reply

Can't believe no one else has commented on Gene's behind! It was so fine and I sure cannot think of any other actor who compares, past or present.

reply

I can't think of any either. his behind was nice 2 say the least.lol. his whole body was amazing. u could really see it, in that scene in American In Paris during that big dance sequence at the end of the film, when he's weraing those tan stretch tights or whatever they are, anyways, he looks amazing in them.

reply

OMG We just watched this last night on AMC. When Gene Kelly was dancing in the LaTrec art piece at the end of the movie (in the beige/cream color tight fitting artist suit with the can can dancers), I actually turned to my hubby and said that Kelly's tush was amazing!!!

reply

YES! His Butt looked so good in that dance number in those tights! That was one SEXY man.

reply

I remember watching this with my mom as a kid and when that scene came on I said "Why is he wiggling his butt like that?" and my mom staring at the TV screen saying "Sssshhhhhh...."

reply

Ha, ha ha! My wife said EXACTLY the same thing the other night when we were watching this classic.
"Sssshhhhhh...."

reply

Yes, but was it as nice as Amy Adams' behind in "Night at the Museum" ...

sorry, an in-joke, if you've ever been to that discussion board.

Kelly is quoted in the NYT as saying, I worked for that body, and i wanted to show it off.

He compared himself to more suave and sophisticated dancers like Fred Astaire, who never showed any sweat.

And poor Frank Sinatra was so thin he had to wear prosthetic butt cheeks.

reply

Wow, I completely agree. I had never thought of him as a sex symbol, and I'm not necessarily into very body-conscious guys, but his physique was astonishing in this.

reply

brrrrr, that costume in the Lautrec sequence of AAIP has always given me the creeps... granted they couldn't let anything "show" back then in the front of the very fitted costume, but they've gone to such lengths to keep anything from showing that Kelly appears to be "unmanned." I repeat, brrrrrrrr.

As for butts of old movie stars -- it's hard to say since male costumes through most of classic Hollywood didn't show any contour of a man's bottom.

"The good end happily, the bad unhappily, that is why it is called Fiction."

reply

I beg to disagree. Towards the first half of the dance I definitely saw his, er, manhood. Yes, I was looking for it. Love Gene Kelly.
BTW, I thought Tyrone Power's tush didn't look too bad in THE MASK OF ZORRO, when he did that dance with Linda Darnell. Tho his pants weren't as tight as Kelly's...

reply

OH MY GOD I couldn't take my eyes off his backside! Maybe in his day he wasn't considered as "classy" as Fred Astaire or as dreamy as Cary Grant or other actors, but holy moly he is so hot! You could bounce a quarter off those glutes, and that SMILE....hoo boy!

Taking back IMDB message boards....one ignored Troll at a time.

As others have commented: Kelly in the tight, tan suit during the Toulouse Lautrec dance scene made my eyes open wide. It's the first time I've thought of him as sexy.

There's nothing like a dancer's ass! Lovely!

reply

Try him in "The Pirate" with Judy Garland. Sizzling. In short-shorts!

reply

He's always been sexy and fine to me and was blessed with loads of talent. Definitely a hottie in his day. Love that scar on his cheek which brings his great looks and physique down to earth.

reply

His legs were incredible.
