Rest in peace, Nina Foch...

Nina Foch has passed away... very sad.
I always loved her in "An American in Paris". Anyone else feel the same?

reply

Absolutely, she's one of the best aspects of the movie. RIP.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'

She is one of the only aspects of this film that works. God bless her.

a real class act, and it's a pity she wasn't a bigger star.

Sad Hamlet to Ophelia 'I'll do a sketch of thee, What kind of pencil shall i use?2B, or not 2B'

She really lifts the movie. Leslie Caron was certainly no actress at this point in her career, and besides Gene Kelley, the other actors are just playing themselves, charming, but not acting. The sets and dances are quite beautiful, but without Nina giving a great performance, I think the movie would have come up short in the emotional involvement department.
I often run the scene of the gladiator fight in "Spartacus," in my humanities classes, but there is so much going on in the scene that I never realized how great and natural Nina's acting was in it. I just took her for her character. Now, watching her performance in "American in Paris," I can see how brilliant her acting is in "Spartacus". I'm going to have to watch the Ten Commandments again, just to see her acting.

And folks should check out the all-star film EXECUTIVE SUITE, which I believe garnered Miss Foch her one Oscar nomination (for Best Supporting Actress).

I've seen it; she's excellent in it as are Paul Douglas and Barbara Stanwyck and pretty much the whole cast.

Aside from Gene Kelly's ass, Nina was the very best thing in this movie!
