THE BEGINNING WAS FUN

I thoroughly enjoyed the hilarious "By Strauss" number (a great example of male bonding), and later, Kelly's "I Got Rhythm" dance with the "French" kiddies.
It's just when the "romantic" elements appeared that the picture went downhill.

Face it; Gene Kelly was a great dancer and comic, but as a serious (especially romantic) actor, he was lousy.

agreed. The romantic scenes and acting felt to stiff. I just didn't buy his love for Lise. I seriously rooted for the frenchman, his acting felt more compassionate towards Lise.
