Music of George Gershwin

It enlarges the film, it's just so beautiful and intense...combined with Gene Kelly's genius in dancing we have a great masterpiece.

Hold my hand and we're halfway there, hold my hand and I'll take you there..Somewhere

Couldn't agree more.
I don't care much about the plot - but oh that music and dancing! :)

Indeed....Gershwin's music is timeless. I never tire of listening to it or seeing it set to dancing...as in this film.

i absolutely agree that the music is fantastic. but i always feel a need to speak up for ira gershwin. the gershwins were a pair and equally essential in producing the classic songs in their body of work. the lyrics are a HUGE part of what makes the music so brilliant! poor ira always gets forgotten.

Chaos was what killed the dinosaurs, darling.

Ira was equally as good as Yip Harburg, Cole Porter, pretty much any of them as far as his lyrics are concerned. Lorenz Hart is the only one who I slightly prefer, because his lyrics have more of a bittersweet edge to them. But Ira is definitely the man and I always try to talk about "The Gershwin Brothers." Fair to point out though, Ira had nothing to do with "An American in Paris" or "Concerto in F" both of which were big parts of this film. The reason George is more well known than Ira is mostly due to the fact that he did all his symphonic work without lyrics. The only somewhat symphonic project that Ira was involved with was "Porgy and Bess."

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'
