an american in paris

Robert of San Francisco does not know what he is talking about. !st of all Gene Kelly did not do any of the artwork in the movie. The artwork is just a plot device to move things along. Its 1951 so the dialog and story line will be dated and a bit sappy. But who cares the main reason why An Amercian in Paris is a great movie is because of Minelli's brillant direction. He uses cinemascope like a paint brush. creating the imprestiont artists during the 18 minute finale. Its the best use of color, and shot composition of any musical and the best since Minelli's "Harvey Girls"(1946) and "Meet me in St Louis"(1944) Its dance and color at its best.
